"We are drastically lowering the cost of manufacturing crops"

"Planty Farm," a small and medium-sized AgTech (high-tech agriculture) company in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, on the 26th. The lowest temperature was around 5 degrees Celsius, but inside the glass greenhouse, five employees were busy harvesting European lettuce. European lettuce, which is grown on six floors, is the company's flagship product, and its main customers are large retailers, including hypermarkets, department stores, and restaurant companies.

Plantifarm operates the largest vertical farm in Korea. The company's vertical farm covers 23,396 square meters (about 6,170 pyeong) and 815,840 square meters (about 246,792 pyeong) in terms of open land area. It is evaluated that it has both productivity and space efficiency by configuring the best illuminance and atmospheric environment for growing crops with its own technology. In fact, 5 tons of European lettuce are produced per day at the central Pyeongtaek plant and seven farms nationwide.

"Seven vertical farms across the country produce more than 140 tons of lettuce per month," said Kang Dae-hyun, CEO of Plantifarm, adding, "It is more than 40 times the production of general open land." CEO Kang said, "We are drastically lowering the cost of manufacturing crops by using waste heat generated during the production process. Since vertical farms are sealed, there is no inflow of pollutants, and infrastructure such as water, power, and wastewater treatment in industrial complexes is eco-friendly."
