An exciting competition in the field of strawberry vertical farming has begun. Who can design, build, and operate a strawberry vertical farm in the most innovative and efficient way?
In a team competition, all participating teams will receive full support, including travel, accommodation, facility construction, and operational costs.
The winning team will receive a prize of up to RMB 1,000,000 (approximately $138,000) and gain a valuable opportunity to enter the global vertical farming market. Everyone is welcome to participate.
The 2025 Smart Agriculture Competition, co-hosted by China's Pinduoduo and the FAO, is now recruiting participants. The core challenge is to design and operate a 3D vertical farming system using strawberry varieties.
The project involves developing a 3D vertical farm system using various strawberry varieties, with the objective of creating high-quality, high-yield strawberry cultivation technologies and verifying their commercial potential. The requirements include designing and constructing a standard vertical farm within a space measuring 5 meters by 10 meters by 4 meters. A 6-month cultivation demonstration will be conducted to test the efficacy of practical, scalable technologies. The system will integrate smart features such as space optimization, automation, and remote monitoring/control to enhance efficiency. Additionally, it will ensure that cultivation management can be done remotely after installation.
Multidisciplinary teams in agriculture, horticulture, AI, electronics, energy systems, and related fields can all apply. The competition is open to academics, research institutes, startups, and companies worldwide.
The application deadline is May 31, 2025. If you wish to apply, you can do so at the link here.
