The results of the 'Downtown Vacant Space Utilization Smart Farm Creation Project' that Daejeon City has been promoting since 2023 are becoming visible. The theme-based smart farm is positioning Daejeon as a leading city in urban smart agriculture, with educational programs ending early.
Daejeon City and Shellpaspace Co., Ltd., the operator of Daejeon Farm, a technology research center, announced on the 15th that two out of seven projects were selected in the 'K-Vertical Farm Globalization Project' contest hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in April, securing KRW 11.7 billion in national funding.
The selected tasks are the development of a modular vertical farm model based on a high-efficiency light source and intelligent light control system, and the development of a vertical farm model for special and medicinal crops adapted to the environment of the northeastern region of North America.
The first task is to develop a standard model for vertical farms that maximizes energy efficiency by combining natural and artificial light. The task will be carried out using the Daejeon Agricultural Technology Center greenhouse and the Yuseong Life Science High School site, which is an institution that has signed a business agreement for Daejeon Farm Activation. This task will be carried out jointly by Green Plus, Chungbuk National University, Jeonbuk National University, and Kiel Research Institute.
