US: Course to teach growers basics of hydroponics

In this comprehensive course, participants will learn all the important aspects of growing through organic hydroponics. The course covers essential topics across different plant types, starting with leafy greens. Participants will explore hydroponic systems such as Deep Water Culture (DWC), Dynamic Flow Technique (DFT), and Ebb and Flow, along with the selection and characteristics of suitable substrates. Moving on to vine crops and berries, the course provides insights into drip irrigation systems and the critical aspects of substrate selection. Participants will examine water quality concerns in organic production and understand the roles of electrical conductivity (EC) and pH levels in organic hydroponics.

The course will further guide participants through various fertilizer options available for organic hydroponics and the effective management of pH levels to optimize plant growth. The importance of maintaining appropriate water temperatures in organic production and the use of inoculants to promote healthy plant growth will also be discussed. Additionally, participants will learn about water testing, management, and flushing techniques to ensure the sustained health of their hydroponic systems. The course addresses common problems faced in organic hydroponics and provides the necessary knowledge needed for attaining organic certification.

The course will be instructed by M.S. Karla Garcia, who brings extensive expertise as part of the Hort Americas Technical Service. With a Master's degree in Plant Sciences from The University of Arizona and recognition by ISHS for strawberry hydroponic research, she offers valuable insights. As the editor of the book "Roadmap to Growing Leafy Greens and Herbs" and CEO at Microgreens FLN, she is well-equipped to guide participants through this learning journey. The course is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Central Time) via the ZOOM US platform. The course is priced at $50 US.
