The 2025 Aquaponics Association Conference has announced two presenters focusing on understanding system dynamics before something goes wrong who will be speaking at the conference.
Curtis Childress, Agricultural Research Assistant at Virginia State University, will present findings from a comparative study on saline vs. freshwater aquaponics systems. Using identical greenhouse systems, he evaluated how salt (5 ppt) impacts fish growth, crop performance (tomatoes, kale, chard, watercress), and overall water quality, including nutrient composition, pH, nitrification, and more. This session offers timely insights for farms in coastal regions, or those experimenting with saline inputs.
Dr. Jennifer Wells, CEO of Lateral.systems, will present a practical approach to identifying early-stage imbalances in aquaponic systems. Instead of waiting for damage to appear, her session explains how growers can use plant and fish behavior data to detect out-of-range conditions and make informed corrections, without shocking the system. You'll also get a demo of how the Lateral Edge platform helps facilitate this process.
The 2025 Aquaponics Association Conference will take place from September 15–17. at College Park, MD. Learn more about the event by clicking here.
