What if advanced vertical farming technology were available to everyone? In collaboration with Austrian artist Georg Kettele, Logiqs supports Harvesting Community, an open-source initiative that explores how industrial-scale food production can empower local communities worldwide.
The project introduces two key prototypes. The first, called The Spider, is a mobile platform that monitors industrial CEM units in real time without disrupting their controlled environments, maintaining precision and efficiency through continuous observation.
The second, openCEM, is a fully open-source one-square-meter vertical farming system that can be built using Eurobox containers, standard components, and 3D-printed parts. Its modular design separates water, air, and light systems, allowing parts to be replaced or upgraded independently.
"Together, these developments demonstrate how accessibility, transparency, and collaboration can contribute to a sustainable food system. From floating CO₂-neutral farms to local urban ecosystems, Harvesting Community examines new ways to grow food and expand participation in food production", the team shares.
