US (CT): Seed sowing underway in Hartford's hydroponic farms

More helping hands and more missions in motion are taking place at the headquarters of Levo International on Homestead Avenue in Hartford's North End. Levo International is an urban farm project that was begun by Founder and Managing Director Christian Heiden a decade ago.

Heiden said, "We are really a community organization that uses simplified hydroponics and urban farming to revitalize and build up communities."

With thousands upon thousands of pounds of fresh produce now distributed to Hartford residents each year, Heiden said that turning blighted lots into urban hydroponic farms has been a catalyst for change.

"We are in one of the worst food deserts in the country - the seventh worst in the country in the North End of Hartford - and there is a real employment and poverty problem here and so what we can do with our hydroponic technology is solve both of those issues," Heiden said.
