About the opportunity:
The Flavorite Tatura farm is in an exciting stage of growth and a newly created position exists for a Head Grower to lead Flavorite Tatura’s Growing and IPM departments.
As the Head Grower, you will be primarily responsible for the development and implementation of all the growing strategies that ensures both maximum production levels and high-quality crops.
In the role you will provide high-level support and direction to the Senior Growers and IPM Supervisor, to ensure that quality and the achievement of growing goals and targets are met.
Reporting to the Chief Grower, the role will suit a growing professional with extensive large-scale commercial Glasshouse Hydroponic fruit and vegetables growing experience.
Further, the role is ideal for an experienced people leader who is driven to develop their team and motivate their team.
Key Accountabilities:
· Develop and manage the implementation of growing strategy to suit each crop and greenhouse
· Inspect crops to determine strategies relating to irrigation, growing environment, crop care and IPM
· Manage crop quality and deal with issues promptly and proactively
· Management of consultants, technical experts, and suppliers to ensure best practice
· Management of weekly nutrients requirements through water analysis and plant observations
· Develop and manage production budget and production forecasting based on annual production plan
· Assist in development of annual Labour budgets outlining key labour tasks required for crops
· Manage IPM operations, through support of the IPM supervisor to ensure all scouting and spraying is completed weekly
· Management of the growing team including recruitment; orienting and training of all employees
· Manage staffing levels to ensure Growing tasks are performed efficiently and effectively
The successful candidate will have the following:
· Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience
· Proven experience in IPM, propagation and growing practices and procedures
· Current knowledge of pesticide and fertiliser application and regulation
· Well-developed computer skills (Microsoft Office)
· Demonstrated leadership ability
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Experience in Tomatoes and Cucumbers strongly preferred
· Chemical user’s certificate desirable
