CEA Alliance applauds important progress on Farm Bill

The CEA Alliance welcomed the release of Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow's Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act and the House Committee on Agriculture's title-by-title summary of its 2024 Farm Bill.

"The CEA Alliance applauds Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Stabenow and House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Thompson for releasing their frameworks for the 2024 Farm Bill," said Tom Stenzel, Executive Director for the CEA Alliance. "Indoor farming is helping to build more resilient and sustainable fresh food supply chains. The industry has grown by leaps and bounds since the 2018 Farm Bill and the next farm bill must reflect the evolving needs of this industry as it continues to mature by ensuring that USDA has the tools and resources it needs to help the American indoor farming industry grow and thrive."

"At a time when the U.S. is importing more fresh food than ever before, indoor farming can take a bite out of rising imports by helping to expand the year-round production and availability of fresh food," said Colin O'Neil, Chair of the CEA Alliance's Public Policy Working Group and Senior Director of Public Policy & Social Impact for Bowery. "We applaud Chairwoman Stabenow for reflecting important provisions from the Food Supply Chain Capacity and Resiliency Act and the Supporting Urban and Innovative Farming Act in the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act and are grateful for Chairman Thompson's continued focus on science, technology, and innovation ahead of the House Committee on Agriculture's scheduled farm bill markup on May 23rd."

The CEA Alliance recently sent a letter to the House and Senate Agriculture Committees urging them to include the Food Supply Chain Capacity and Resiliency Act and the Supporting Urban and Innovative Farming Act in the farm bill.
