IN: Flowers are flourishing under LED lights

The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has launched an urban gardening project using LED grow-light technology for commercial cultivation for tuberose and chrysanthemum plants on a two-acre land near the Biswa Bangla Gate in New Town.

NKDA chairman Debashis Sen launched the project by turning on the LED lights on Saturday night. The authorities are taking help from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vigyan Kendra and flower growers of Panskura as to how the lights could be used for cultivating the plants, where to get the seeds, what fertilizers need to be used, time of watering and how to sell the flowers in the wholesale markets and local retailers.
