UK: Full-scale Martian house will include hydroponic room

A full-scale house designed for future life on Mars has received planning permission in Bristol. The house is the outcome of an ongoing public art project, ‘Building a Martian House’. The two-storey dwelling boasts a hydroponic living room - filled with plants - flexible, private living space and virtual reality rooms.

"It’s going to be a real life house that you can step into and imagine how we might live on another planet," artists Ella Good and Nicki Kent, leaders of the project, explain. "It’s often said we have more technology in our pockets nowadays than took NASA to the moon. This project is about seeing what is possible and how far we can get with what we have here and now."

‘Building a Martian House’ is due to open in April 2022 and run until the end of August 2022.
