Since 2017, EP Greens has been providing the Estes Valley with the freshest locally grown produce in town, and earlier this year they expanded their growing capability with a new location at 1040 Kenwood Lane in order to keep up with the growing demand for their product.
The year-round indoor hydroponic vertical farm is owned and operated by 30-year US Navy veteran Ellen Bristow and her son Shane Bristow. Ellen and Shane Bristow own and operate EP Green at 1207 Graves Avenue and recently expanded their growing operations to a new facility at 1040 Kenwood Lane.
“We expanded to a second facility in early 2021 mainly to grow more lettuce,” said Shane. “We did not know how popular our lettuce was going to be when we started growing, but heads of lettuce and our bags of mixed lettuce have been our most popular product, and we could not keep up with demand.”
The additional space has allowed for more lettuce production as well as increased crops of microgreens, herbs, leafy greens, pea shoots, sunflower shoots, and cilantro. “Also, we have some room to try our hand at fruiting plants like tomatoes and cucumbers,” Shane said. “Our goal is to provide everything you need for a tasty and healthy salad, minus the dressing.”
Like many business owners, the Bristows were planning to expand sooner but the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays in the shipping of materials. While all retail operations will still take place at their original location at 1207 Graves Avenue, they are happy to give customers a look around the new facility.
