"This portfolio will allow us to better support growers in all sectors"

Bosman Van Zaal acquires CMW Horticulture

Bosman Van Zaal from Aalsmeer in the Netherlands, a specialist in turnkey horticultural projects, will expand its activities in the United Kingdom through the acquisition of CMW Horticulture, based in East Yorkshire. The name CMW Horticulture will remain unchanged, the range of products and services will remain the same and the entire team will also remain with the company so that service and maintenance of all greenhouses and greenhouse installations is guaranteed.

Marco Braam (CEO) and Arjan Kok (CTO) both from Bosman Van Zaal, Managing Director Ian Metcalfe from CMW Horticulture and Ben van der Heide CSO, also from Bosman Van Zaal.

Continuity and further development
CMW Horticulture is a horticultural supplier in the UK, founded in June 1989 as a joint venture with Leen Huisman, a Dutch screen specialist company. In April 2014, after 25 years of partnership with the Dutch company, the shareholders decided that the time was right for the UK directors to take control and a deal was struck to buy out the majority. CMW is currently working on a variety of projects in the UK and Ireland, for growers of salad, soft fruit, ornamental and pharmaceutical crops.

Thanks to the takeover, CMW will be even better able to respond to technical developments in the horticultural sector, as it can make use of the extensive team of horticultural engineers in Aalsmeer, that works on the development of Venlo glasshouses, and polythene greenhouses and also focuses on logistical, cultivation, water, climate, electrical and control systems as well as data logging. In addition, over time, systems within the company will be aligned with the parent company, which will increase efficiency. Managing Director Ian Metcalfe sums it up as follows: “Bosman Van Zaal is a well-respected and very progressive company, with an excellent product portfolio that will allow us to better support growers in all sectors of the horticultural industry. We are very excited to work with them and look forward to a new chapter in our company’s history. I have no doubt that, with the support Bosman Van Zaal will provide, CMW will see continued growth and success in this vibrant industry in the UK and Ireland.”

Focus on local markets
The acquisition is in line with Bosman Van Zaal’s strategy, which is aimed at aligning its high-quality horticultural knowledge with the needs of local markets and sectors, enabling tailor-made projects to be carried out more efficiently. For that reason, local people and existing organizations are used, who have the right contacts in the area and a better insight into the local market demand.
