Verdelab Bioscience inaugurates its new headquarters

Verdelab Bioscience inaugurated its new headquarters in Rimini, near the Agri-Food Centre and the Rimini Nord highway exit on 25 August 2021. "We are opening the doors to the new phytosanitary laboratory, which is about 1500 square meters, compared to 300 at the previous location.

Not only does it comply with all the European certification standards, but it has also been built with a latest-generation construction concept, attentive to environmental protection and energy saving," explained the general manager Simone Pizzagalli.

The exterior of the new headquarters

"From the field to the laboratory' could be an ideal slogan for Verdelab, which was founded 20 years ago in a small space of 50 square metres and has now grown to involve a dozen agronomists, agricultural experts and biotechnologists.

Simone Pizzagalli, general manager Verdelab

"Fifty per cent of our turnover is abroad and seed companies are the ones that fall within our target. For example, referring to companies across the border, we work a lot with Dutch companies such as Kws Vegetables, Pop Vriend, Eminent Seeds, Evolve Seeds, De Bolter, Femix Seeds, as well as all the main Italian companies in the sector," added Pizzagalli.

Inside the laboratories

"Verdelab Bioscience's corporate mission is to work to achieve maximum customer satisfaction. Those who decide to put their trust in us must have the guarantee that they have chosen a reliable and professional partner, one that is discreet because it is aware of sensitive data, but also adaptable to offer a tailor-made service in the shortest possible time."

In addition to seed companies, this laboratory is also used by plant nurseries and farms. "We define ourselves as the 'private horticultural clinic' because we carry out plant disease recognition using biotechnology. But, as I always emphasize, machines do not replace the expertise of technicians and researchers when it comes to diagnosing plant diseases," continued the owner.

Looking to the future, Pizzagalli foresees more prevention and fewer treatments. "Verdelab is equipped with several air-conditioned chambers where breeders can agree with phytopathologists on tests with in-vivo inoculations of fungi, viruses and bacteria to check the resistance of new selections. Biomolecular technologies work very well alongside classic microbiological methods and improve performance both for phytopathological diagnostics and genetic research".
