This October, container farming manufacturer Brick Street Farms will break ground on its first large-scale, direct-to-consumer, urban farm community ‘hub’. This model aims to bypass traditional agriculture supply chains and distribution channels for a direct-to-consumer experiential retail model.
Utilizing proprietary thrive containers, the hub will grow an equivalent of 16-20 acres of traditional farmland on 1/3 acre lots. In addition to the growing containers, Brick Street Farms has designed and engineered additional containers which fulfill the other required aspects of the facility: centralized systems, retail, dry storage, and cold storage.
Brick Street Farms Founder and CEO, Shannon O’Malley observed “With harvest to home in 24 hours, our BSF Hubs are game-changers in the era of the agriculture industry. With this model, we contribute to the local economy by empowering and investing in our urban communities. We provide nutritional and medicinal food that has not been compromised by traditional agriculture supply chain issues, grown on-site, in one of the most advanced environmentally sustainable arenas in agriculture”.
Each location will also work with the Desert Farms Foundation, providing nutritional wellness and access to leafy greens for all in the community.
