US (IL): $250k Funding received to improve accessible protein availability

In a move that will make way for new breakthroughs in life sciences research and sustainable energy, Governor JB Pritzker & DCEO announced 8 new projects as part of the Wet Lab Capital program, and new investments to bolster Illinois Tech’s Microgrid.

Leveraged by #RebuildIllinois, investments will generate $90M in vital modern lab space, boost energy grid stability and strengthen Illinois’ competitive edge well into the 21st century.

Wet Lab Capital grants will support the development of new public and private wet lab spaces, with projects at the state's top universities and at neighborhood incubators, expansions and improvements of existing space, and the creation of new lab spaces in all parts of the state. Funded projects include Back of the Yards Algae Sciences LLC, $250,000.00.

CEO Leonard Lerer said: “We are working with the State of Illinois on the renaissance of food innovation in the old Chicago stockyards. This area played a major role in making nutritious and accessible protein available to the whole world “

The past year has proven that investments in these sectors are essential for communities, and also that Illinois is ripe for the continued expansion of vital wet lab spaces.
