Belgian man grows saline vegetables in vertical farm

At the moment, Jan Bracke has the only vertical farm with saline vegetables in Europe. "It was a process of trial and error," he explains in an interview with the Vlaams Agentschap Innoveren & Ondernemen.

"We experimented with light and with the type of substrate on which our plants grow. So far, we have reached the point where we are growing samphire in abundance, as cut leaves but also as plants for the spice corner in the kitchen. The highlight: last year I took part in a certified taste test in Kruishouten and our salty vegetables came out on top. That gives us a lot of confidence. I am looking forward to scaling up."

Read the whole article (in Dutch) here about the man who, after a multiple-year career in automotive manufacturing, which ended when the factory closed, decided to start a vertical farm: Leafwheel.
