CAN (ON): Orangeville supermarket adds vertical farm after renovation

After 10 months of renovations, the Orangeville Sobeys has celebrated the completion of the work, hosting its grand reopening/unveiling on November 3. While the store did remain open throughout the renovations, the work was only recently completed. According to the company, this is the first store to be outfitted with this particular design.

“We really want to invite the good people of Orangeville back through to see what we’ve done,” said Derek Leduc, store franchisee. “They did such a good job on the design; it’s more like something you would see in Europe, or even downtown Toronto.”

The produce department features a new "Infarm" system — a vertical farming feature offering micro greens and fresh herbs grown in-store. “Whatever we farm in that corner, we actually sell,” explained Leduc. “Customers are loving it and we’re selling a lot of those items.”
