FRM produces vertical aeroponic cultivation systems that can be installed in all kinds of buildings and structures. "The high-pressure aeroponic Vertical Farming system has a series of considerable advantages. Plant roots are sprayed with water, so the quantity of water necessary is really low. This is why systems can be planned with considerable distances and heights, considering the system works at 70 bar," explains manager Andrea Guglielmi.
"In addition, the system is entirely modular, as it can feature few or numerous tanks, depending on the space available."
Small systems can be managed mostly by hand, while large ones can be entirely automated. "We patented various parts of our system and we will patent other parts soon. An experimental crop can already be seen at the University of Bologna, so anyone interested can see how it works."
The fact that the roots are 'free', i.e. not in water, but that the water is sprayed together with the nutrient helps a precise control of the final result, which is constant and repeatable. In Italy, this system could be adopted by those looking for a way to use abandoned warehouses or buildings while, abroad, there is a lot of interest from areas that don't have enough water for traditional productions. It is also possible to 'hire' modules to test their effectiveness before making a purchase.
The company developed as part of 'Trentino Sviluppo' and will soon set up a system in Rovereto.
