US (CT): Indoor farm​ expanding to Stratford

An indoor farm initiative will be planting seeds in Stratford very soon to supply fresh produce to nearby food pantries. nOURish Indoor Farm was founded Bridgeport by Rev. Sarah Smith in 2009, and is expanding to Stratford next week.

The charity is establishing an indoor farm in Stratford to supply fresh produce to food pantries in the area, including its own pantry in Bridgeport. The farm "will feature three different innovative indoor vertical hydroponic farming approaches to grow a variety of vegetables.," a news release said.

The farm will provide fruits and vegetables including lettuce, baby kale, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, cucumbers, eggplant, squash, and spinach, according to a news release from the town of Stratford. The farm is inside a freight container, which will be delivered to Stratford on Tuesday and should be ready to begin growing in mid-January, according to the town.

The farm is expected to produce 204 pounds of fresh produce per week when it is fully operational. PizzaCo in Stratford is one of the local companies planning to use nOURish crops, a news release said.
