An online event in Agrocommunity on February 24

Innovation in emerging crops such as medical cannabis or microalgae under artificial lighting

The latest advances in innovation in emerging crops under artificial lighting will be presented in an online event that will take place on the agricultural audiovisual content platform Agromunity.com. The event will be held starting at 5:00 pm on February 24 and will last two and a half hours. In it, 5 expert speakers will address the current situation of crops, such as algae, cannabis, and horticultural crops, that when cultivated in a more technical way allow producers to obtain products with greater added value and profitability, such as medicines, cosmetics, superfoods, or proteins.

The event will start with a presentation by Francisco Jimenez, a medical cannabis cultivation advisor at 4agro and Danaagronomics, who will talk about the technological innovations in this type of cultivation from hemp. Jimenez is a doctor of agricultural engineering that has more than ten years of experience advising on different crops and extensive experience in R&D&I.

He will be followed by Isabel Bronchalo, CEO and co-founder of Agrenvec, Spain's leading biotechnology company and one of the first in Europe in the field of molecular agriculture. Bronchalo is an agronomist from the Polytechnic of Madrid, and she will make a presentation on using plants as biofactories to obtain compounds with high added value.

Pedro Seixas, the manager of Aqualgae, will talk about the biotechnological applications of microalgae. Seixas has a doctorate in biology from the University of Santiago de Compostela, specializing in aquaculture. A decade ago, he founded this pioneering firm in the development of sustainable products from microalgae.

Crops in a protected environment
Within emerging crops, the event will focus on those that are produced in a protected environment under artificial lighting. Silvia Bures (Ph.D., agricultural engineer and CEO of Buresinnova) and Blanca Barroso (agro-environmental and landscape engineer at Buresinnova) will make a presentation about the latest advances in artificial lighting and how producers can influence crops and obtain higher yields with the sector's most advanced lighting innovations. The online event is being organized by Buresinnova,  a benchmark firm in Spain in lighting for horticultural crops.

The experts will also talk about new applications of artificial light for crop and post-harvest disinfection. The event will be broadcast live online on the Agromunity.com platform in an agile and dynamic format, which will allow attendees to express their doubts and ask questions to the experts.
