LED iBond:

Sustainable, intelligent lighting solutions that comply with the SDG's

"Being able to manufacture strong lighting solutions at only 6 mm in thickness is nothing that we have ever seen in the vertical farming market. In today’s vertical farms, space is vital and the more layers you can stack on top of each other, the higher yield you get,” says Nanna Vejgaard, marketing direction at LED iBond.

LED iBond is a Danish lighting company that delivers sustainable and intelligent lighting solutions for vertical farming, smart buildings, disinfection devices with ultraviolet radiation, etc. The company’s mission is aligned with four of the United National Sustainable Development Goals: zero hunger (#2) through vertical farming, good health and well-being (#3) by improving indoor environments and facilitating disinfection, climate action (#13) through energy efficiency and industry, innovation and infrastructure (#9) through knowledge sharing.

Introducing: Tracy and Gracy
LED iBond offers two LED solutions for vertical farms, named Tracy and Gracy. As Nanna explains, Tracy is a linear solution whose form factor is well suited to greenhouse applications as its narrow frame blocks little sunlight. Comparatively, Gracy is a panel solution that is well adapted to indoor farms as its panel form factor increases the light uniformity without needing to consider any shading from sunlight.

LED iBond can customize either solution to each client’s needs with respect to uniformity, spectrum and intensity (i.e., PPF and PPFD). “Since we can customize the lighting solutions to each client’s needs, we have no predilection for the crops. However, we do see very good results with the shelves at a low height since our 6mm-thin solution lets us go very close to the plants,” explains Nanna.

With its team of engineers constantly testing and optimizing LED iBond’s products, the company considers itself to always be on top of the latest technologies. Innovations are further bolstered by the close cooperation with clients, with whom LED iBond often co-develops lighting solutions.

Most excitingly, LED iBond is in the final stage of launching a replaceable LED solution with the aim of reducing waste. Rather than discarding the entire fixture, clients will be able to easily replace the LED diode with a new one. This will prove useful both at the panel’s end of life and if/when growers decide to change the target spectrum for their crops.
