CAN: New collaboration supports agri-tech innovation

Ontario’s life sciences sector and Canada’s Food & Agri-Tech Engine have agreed to collaborate in support of innovation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Life Sciences Ontario, which represents Ontario’s pharmaceutical, medical device, agri-food and agri-tech, biotech and medicinal cannabis industries, has joined Bioenterprise Canada as a Knowledge and Development Partner.

“The addition of Life Sciences Ontario to the Engine represents an important expansion for our national innovation network into the life sciences ecosystem,” says Bioenterprise Canada CEO Dave Smardon. “There are many exciting innovation opportunities developing in sectors like biopharmaceuticals, bioeconomy, and environmental technologies in Ontario and we are looking forward to working collaboratively in support of their commercialization goals and growth objectives.”

Through its partnership with the Engine, LSO will work collaboratively with Bioenterprise Canada to expand opportunities for its members and build new partnerships with organizations and businesses across the country. Both organizations will also share resources, expertise and networks in support of innovation opportunities.

“Agri-tech and agri-food are important industries within the life sciences ecosystem here in Ontario and collaborating with Bioenterprise Canada allows us to work closely in promoting the key issues, challenges and more over opportunities that exist within these sectors to both government and industry audiences,” says Life Sciences Ontario’s President and CEO Dr. Jason Field.
