India: Retired banker has 1,000 plants of 400 varieties in his house

In congested Shahganj, the house of a retired banker has become a point of attraction for local residents and foreign tourists from countries such as Germany, Japan, and Bangladesh.

Former State Bank of India employee Chandrashekar Sharma calls his 300-year-old residence a “greenhouse” as it is home to over 1,000 plants of 400 different varieties planted across a 6,300 sq ft area.
A vertical garden covers a large part of the outer walls of his property. Interestingly, he has grown lotus plants, rare in the Agra region, at his residence. In the past two years, he has helped over 50 houses across the city implement his “greenhouse” model.

So far, Sharma says he has planted over 2,000 trees and aims to plant 500 more in the next year. “I am emotionally attached to plants and trees and love them like my kids,” he says.
