Three indoor farms listed on Best for the world B Corps

Harvest London, Area 2 Farms and rotterzwam were listed as the only two indoor farms for 'Best for the World B Corps in Environment'. This year, the British, American and Dutch companies were listed, alongside with 97 other companies by Certified B Corporation.

As the organization puts it, "these corporations are taking bold action to preserve our most precious resources. With planet-friendly practices and environmental initiatives, they consider the impact of their everyday footprint, including energy usage, materials, facilities, supply chain, and more."

Harvest London, a UK-based vertical farming company Based on the B Impact assessment, Harvest London earned an overall score of 104.7. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.

Harvest London is a vertical farming company seeking to transform our unsustainable food system. Food production contributes around a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, increasingly not just from farms themselves, but in activities like transport and processing. Agriculture is also a major contributor to waterway pollution, deforestation and soil degradation. The demand for fresh produce of all types, from across the globe, year-round, will only grow - the cosmopolitan tastes of consumers in developed countries impact the whole world. Harvest London is a specialist in using controlled environment technology to grow great-tasting food, right next to the final consumer.

rotterzwam
, a Rotterdam-based (NL) indoor mushroom farming company earned an overall score of 105.0. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.

Rotterzwam believes in a society that closes loops, use raw materials to the maximum of their potential and consumes more plant-based than animal proteins. We do this by working together locally, regionally and internationally to stimulate and facilitate the production of mushrooms from local residual flows. The result is a wide range of products and services related to mushroom production, awareness and delicious and honest snacks based on plant-based proteins.

The Area 2 Farms team

Area 2 Farms, the Arlington-based (Virginia, USA) community farm earned an overall score of 98.0. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.

Area 2 Farms is focused on bringing farmers together and serving the surrounding CV, Maryland and Virginia neighborhoods. The farm adapts its supply to meet the demand of its buyers, growing what they know to deliver and eliminating waste. Using its own growing system, the company supplies a range of microgreens, lettuce and herbs.
