Peter van Vugt appointed new Asia Sales Manager at TTA

CEA developing rapidly in China

TTA is a Dutch company founded in 1996. TTA is an expert in the production of automated equipment for handling and selecting young plants. The company has extensive experience in the fields of transplanting, grading, and consolidating young plants.

Starting June 1st, Peter van Vugt took over from Peter Rietveld as Asia Sales Manager for TTA. Peter van Vugt has years of experience in the horticulture industry, and he has experience doing business in Asia. "I started working in the horticulture industry 25 years ago, mainly involved in companies that produced young plants. For the last five years, I have been in charge of the Asian-related market. In this role, I have traveled to China many times," Peter says.

Successes despite pandemic restrictions

"Before the outbreak, we often traveled to China to visit customers for face-to-face communication. We are an established company in the European and American markets. In China, it took time to gain brand awareness. International travel has been difficult, and business has not been easy since the start of the pandemic. However, we managed to install some large projects in the country," explains Peter: "Last year, we installed a complete seedling production line for Shanghai Yuanyi Seedling. This is a comprehensive horticultural enterprise located in Chongming Island, Shanghai, with seedlings as its core business. A perfect match with TTA as a major technology provider for seedling, transplanting, grading, and consolidating. "

Chinese partnerships make for continuity
Peter continues: "TTA's factory is in the Netherlands, and all the machines need to be shipped from the Netherlands. Before the official delivery, we test the machines and make them ready for the customers. We have partners in China, so when our employees cannot travel, the installation work is completed by our Chinese partners. Our technical experts can connect remotely to solve problems in the application."

The Chinese market has developed rapidly in recent years, and vegetables and flowers have great market potential. Since the pandemic, planting vegetables in a protected environment has become more common in China, and more and more companies have joined the field. Compared with the past, growers have become more professional and mature, and they know how to improve the production of vegetables and flowers. In addition, the markets in Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and South Korea are all developing rapidly. Plant factories and indoor agriculture are more common in Japan, while South Korea is more focused on the development of greenhouses.

Peter concludes: "We see and know there are a lot of opportunities in China, even during pandemic we still able to serve the Chinese customers."

"We are now fully ready to serve the Chinese market with our machines and knowledge. We believe the Chinese market is mature, and together, we can bring Chinese Horticulture to a higher level."
