CAN (BC): 1300m2 indoor farm added to new eco-park

A Salmon Arm company is looking to showcase up-and-coming technologies and take traditional farming to the next level – indoors. Zion Growing Solutions is developing 160 acres in what it is calling an "eco-park."

Company president David DenHollander says the main objective "is to provide local food security while being mindful of water and energy use." DenHollander explains the eco-park is expecting to use thermal batteries, solar technologies and explore water-saving solutions.

The eco-park is located in Tappen, off the Trans-Canada Highway near Recline Ridge. "The site used to be owned by Orica and was a blasting cap manufacturing plant for 50 years," he says.

There are about 14,000 square feet of existing structures on site where they'll be able to grow food. Zion is teaming up with Agriplay, a vertical growing company out of Alberta. DenHollander says Agriplay has "already turned millions of square feet of unused office space in Calgary, essentially into farms," and he's excited to bring the company's technology to B.C.

He's hoping the Zion eco-park will attract investors and industry partners alike. "We want to create a hub for like-minded people and businesses," says DenHollander.
