Japan: Spread's farm exceeds sales of 100 million servings

Spread Co., Ltd.'s vertical farm called Vegetus has exceeded the sales of 100 million packages in November 2022. The plant factory is producing three lettuce varieties which are sold by Spread.

Vegetus is a brand of Spread's leaf lettuce produced indoors. With the concept of "Sustainable vegetables," the Japanese company aims to create vegetables that are healthy for people and the earth just by eating them.

The product lineup consists of three types with different textures and is handled by approximately 5,000 retailers and food service and home meal service operators nationwide.

Market creation
"Vegetables from plant-based factories are not luxury items, and we have tirelessly innovated cultivation technology and improved operations to make them more affordable for a wider audience," the team shared.

As a result, Spread has been able to reduce the retail price from 258 yen at the time of its launch to 198 YEN (1,40EUR) in 2011 and 158 YEN (1,10EUR) in 2019.
