"A greenhouse is a very pleasant working environment"

Last August, a 500-square-meter hydroponic greenhouse was installed in Megadim, in the north of Israel, for the production of leafy greens. The greenhouse is owned by Johnathan and his father, Eli.

Johnathan is a soldier in the IDF, the Israeli army, and has PDD, a Pervasive Development Disorder, and after his father had the idea of having a hydroponic business, they started to work at a similar farm. "It was a great experience," says Eli. "I thought working with a hydroponic system would be suitable for Johnathan's fine and gross motoric skills," he adds. "And a greenhouse is a very pleasant working environment."

For the greenhouse, a Tapkit was chosen. Tapkit is a full solution of a 500-square-meter hydroponic system, which can produce annually more than 130,000 lettuce heads or 8 tons of fresh herbs.

"Jonathan is happy, proud, and very relaxed. I couldn't think of a better occupation for him," says Eli. "And, what's also important, is that we can run a profitable business, a real business. Our greenhouse is not a charity. Restaurants in our area are very happy with the fresh, locally grown lettuces and fresh herbs that we supply. Also, our neighbors are happy with this fresh supply."
