It's February, it's cold, and thousands of kilos of fresh produce have been transported to Berlin. That means the Fruit Logistica is happening again. Today the trade show kicked of in Berlin. Here's what not to miss from the horticultural industry.
Like every year, Berlin will welcome thousands of professionals from all over the world, who will be able to find out about the main innovations in production, technology, and inputs.
This year the horticultural basement has moved to hall 3.1 for the first time, where you will find many technological suppliers. It will also be nearby the Dutch halls, hall 3.2 and hall 1.2, where many greenhouse suppliers can be found.

Launch of new Ferreira and Novero beef tomatoes by De Ruiter
Diseases are an ongoing threat to produce growers, but none may be more impactful than tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV), which transmits easily, decimates crops, and is difficult to eradicate. To help growers mitigate their risk, protect their crop's marketability, and provide new solutions in their fight against the disease, Vegetables by Bayer through De Ruiter® has commercialized two new beef tomatoes with ToBRFV resistance, Ferreira and Novero. Ferreira and Novero, which have Intermediate Resistance* to ToBRFV, are early-fruiting beef tomato hybrids that feature high yield potentials, a bold red color, and suitability for both Fall planting and year-round environments. Ferreira has an average fruit weight of 250-260 grams, and Novero has an average fruit weight of 240-250 grams, allowing growers a choice of variety that best suits their needs. With good plant coverage, Ferreira and Novero are widely adaptable across North America and Mexico. Read more about it here.

Drainage collection
Among these innovations, the latest solution for drainage collection patented by Hydroponic Systems stands out: its HS Evolution Pot. "This is a unit that favours the cultivation of strawberries in a bulk substrate in a new Spacer format. This system is effective and sustainable, as it is made of highly resistant and durable materials and avoids the use of plastic bags with the substrate. This improves environmental benefits and allows farmers to save associated costs such as the removal of plastic at the end of each crop cycle", the team says.
