Can the LED grow light market recover its growth trajectory?

The global horticultural industry has become one of the most popular end markets for LED lights in recent years. Many companies from the lighting industry have entered this agricultural space.

However, after experiencing rapid growth of the grow lighting market driven by an increase in horticulture production in North America in 2020, it is noted that from the second half of 2021, due to a combination of factors including shipping backlogs, crackdowns on illegal planting facilities, and the effects of the epidemic, the demand for LED grow lights started to decline.

After experiencing these large fluctuations in the market, how does the industry upgrade its own led grow business, gain a firm foothold in the increasingly competitive grow light market, and welcome the arrival of greater business opportunities in the future?

"Although short-term and long-term demand for LED grow lights continue to surface, if the industry chain wants to achieve sustainable development in the field of grow light, the key factor is whether it is LED light products continue to meet the needs of growers and increase the investment of enterprises and end users. Especially during these recent few years with high demand, an increasing number of players has entered the horticultural lighting field. It is clear now that companies need high-quality products to win a place in the increasingly competitive horticultural lighting market", explains Tony Chen from Ledestar.

"Whether it is a vertical farm or a greenhouse facility, the core demand can be summarized as quickly as possible by harvesting high-quality crops at the lowest cost. Therefore, the core requirements of the downstream industry or end customers for plant lighting products are usually inseparable from high light efficiency and high lighting efficiency", continues Tony.

"Cost-effective and highly reliable lights, in order to maximize the input-output ratio. As far as the LED fixtures industry is concerned, various brands have also made strategic adjustments to the market, including the launch of large-size LEDs and optimizing the heat dissipation of light fixtures. We also see the improvement of special coating processes, which strengthens the anti-sulfurization ability of the product. A broadened spectrum extending to UV and infrared light spectra enables our LED to grow light and cover the entire light spectrum", says Tony.

"On this basis, Ledestar has improved the PPE of its LEDs, raising the PPE of red-light bead products to above 4.2μmol/J under the condition of 700mA current. And under the condition of 60 or 65mA current, the PPE of our white light products increases to above 3.2 μmol/J", he concludes.

Finally, Tony notes enthusiastically: "With the release of the epidemic control in China, we believe that the market will gradually recover its vitality. Looking forward to 2023. As such, we warmly invite major overseas brands to communicate and share their insights with us so that we can all revive the market together."
