Crops at the new Historic Westside farm are beginning to bloom. On Tuesday, the City of Las Vegas shared pictures of the first seedlings sprouting inside the urban farm shipping containers at James Gay Park in the Historic Westside.
The city says they are growing green beans, lettuce, and more inside the containers, which aim to help the community.
According to the City of Las Vegas, 25.5% of Historic Westside residents experience food insecurity, with 45% of them also enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Program, and 98% of students are eligible for free lunch at public schools.
Officials say the farm is vital to help residents across the Historic Westside community and the valley.
