The Refuge raising money for trip to help Kenyans

The Refuge in Philomath is raising money to help finance a trip to Kenya to establish a sustainable food source and bring jobs to the local populations of Ruiru and Malindi, organizers announced.

“We are working to raise $3,200 per person so that we can go help set up and work alongside those who are building an aquaponics food system that will incorporate growing fish and plants at the same time,” sources with The Refuge said about the effort, which involves a partnership with the 93CDegrees organization.

The effort includes a can and bottle drive on Saturday, a Papa’s Pizza fundraiser on Monday, and a dinner and silent auction and dessert auction event on June 24.

The can and bottle drive will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 13 at The Refuge, located at 1947 College St. The items can be dropped off or volunteers will come and pick them up.
