United Super Markets Holdings Co., Ltd. and Plantex Co., Ltd. launched a new vertical farm 'Terrabase' Tsuchiuri in May 2022 and has been operating for over a year now.
To further develop the sustainable urban environment vegetable supply chain development the SEED consortium was established.
The SEED Consortium will seek participation from co-creation partners and aim to build a future design for an urban environmental vegetable business model.
The consortium
United Super Markets Holdings Co launched the private brand 'Green Growers' with the concepts of safe and secure, healthy and environmentally friendly. In 2021, they started hydroponically grown lettuce in Plantex's factory. And ever since November 2022, the company sold its plant-derived lettuce from BEYOND MEAT, a US company.
While evolving Green Growers in this way, United Super Markets Holdings has collaborated with Plantex to launch a plant factory called 'The Terrabase' in order to provide customers with higher value through Green Growers.
With the start of operations at the same factory in June 2022, the SPF model, in which USMH is consistently involved from product development to production, distribution, and sales, has established a supply system for ultra-fresh lettuce that can be found in stores within 24 hours of harvest. The farm ships lettuce to approximately 200 stores of the USMH Group every day.
