Italy: €15 million investment to build a vertical farm in Agnadello

Agricola Moderna and Infrastrutture per la Crescita ESG fund partnered up to invest in vertical farming.

The IPC Fund will invest approximately 15 million euros in constructing a modern vertical farm to lease to Agricola Moderna. The fund will also invest in the equity of Agricola, which will chip in for the plant's technology (approximately 13 million euro).

The IPC Fund contributes to Agricola Moderna's growth in the Italian market by constructing a vertical farm 100% supplied by renewable energies. The farm will be built in the Municipality of Agnadello in the province of Cremona and is expected to be completed by September 2024.

The new plant will cover the full extent of the supply chain on an area of approximately 9,000 m2. 2,000 m2 will be dedicated to vertical farming for a total cultivation area of 11,000 m2.

Production is expected to be over 900 tons per year of leafy vegetables, including salads and aromatic baby and teen leafs ready for consumption.

"The IPC Fund investment in Agricola Moderna is a crucial step for our future. We are proud of the interest and appreciation that this important investor has had in our project," said Pierluigi Giuliani and Benjamin Franchetti, co-founders of Agricola Moderna. "The goal is to create a company focused on medium-long term growth that is capable of generating value for all of our stakeholders."

"The investment in Agricola Moderna allows us to combine our two major objectives: investing in the infrastructure of innovative sectors with growth perspective, and at the same time, ensuring ESG-compliant investments that have positive and measurable results."
