Malaysia: Kuantan families reap benefits from hydroponic program

In an effort to encourage a self-sustainable economy in communities, Semambu assemblyman Chan Chun Kuang has launched a hydroponic gardening project for low-income families in Kuantan, Pahang.

To help them get started, he donated hydroponic sets to the families at the launch. Chan said the hydroponic system was a simple and efficient planting method that could maximize the production of crops in small and narrow areas.

“It will suit families who plan to plant vegetables or fruits in their own garden to ease their financial burden. “Neighbourhoods can also turn to the hydroponic system to generate some income from the produce. This will boost their economic independence.”

Chan assured the participants that his service center would buy their first harvest as an incentive. “I hope more communities will get involved in this program so they can build a better life,” he said.
