£185 million:

UK energy fund includes horticulture for the first time

The Spring 2024 competition of the UK Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) opens to applications on Monday, 29 January. There will be a second competition window later in 2024. Phase 3 will provide up to £185 million in funding between 2024 and 2028.

The Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) supports the development and deployment of technologies that enable businesses with high energy use to transition to a low-carbon future. For the first time, the fund now includes controlled environment (edible) horticulture.

The competition will provide grant funding towards the costs of:

  • Feasibility and engineering studies for potential deployment projects that will deliver energy efficiency or decarbonization benefits if implemented, enabling decision-makers to make informed investment choices
  • Deployment of mature energy efficiency technologies that improve industrial energy efficiency and reduce energy demand (TRL 7-9)
  • Deployment of deep decarbonization technologies that reduce carbon emissions associated with the industrial process (TRL 7-9)

Applicants for deployment projects requesting a grant of £5 million or above must submit a feasibility study or engineering study to support their application.
