US (WI): Grower pursues microgreen passion

Rand Anderson's professional career doesn't have an easy throughline to follow. Anderson left his corporate job at Northern Tools, an equipment manufacturer and retailer.

Eventually, he pursued his passion for microgreens — vegetable and herb seedlings — which led to him helping create Twin Brooks Produce, a local and organic vendor of the sustainable products.

Anderson was intrigued by microgreens' versatility, nutritional value and ability to grow all year. Anderson found success with harvesting broccoli, speckled pea, sunflower and radish microgreens, along with his salad and zesty mixes. The salad mix consists of broccoli, arugula and kale greens, while the zesty mix uses broccoli, kale, radish and mustard greens.

"And my real goal is to keep it as local as possible. And so people know where they're getting their food from. And be able to know that it's nutritious and fresh," he said. Currently, Anderson has his eyes set on the greens, but he'd like to move forward with specialty items like beets, herbs and more — all from his garden.
