US (PA): Reading School District proposes aquaponics building

The Reading Planning Commission on Tuesday reviewed a sketch plan from the Reading School District for a proposed 2,100-square-foot aquaponics building at Red Knight Accelerated Academy on the Thomas Ford Campus.

The aquaponics building will utilize fish tanks to provide nutrients and water to grow plants hydroponically so that no soil is used.

The proposed building would be built on existing paved area so it will not change the impervious coverage at the school.

District officials said the facility will be used by students already at the Red Knight Accelerated Academy, which is used by high school students in a credit recovery program.
