“I started doing microgreens maybe four or five months after I started growing mushrooms”

Dan isn't growing any of the stereotypical plants you see at a farmers market. No corn or green beans. No tomatoes or peppers. Dan's produce is of another kind entirely. Dan's main products are mushrooms and microgreens.

His 'farm' is a 5,000-square-foot warehouse in Sioux Falls where he grows a variety of both mushrooms and microgreens available at local farmers markets during the warm months, but also to local restaurants and grocery stores.

Dakota Mushrooms & Microgreens has become a staple at the Farmers Market in the Park on Saturday mornings at Arnolds Park Amusement Park during the summer months.

"We grew some carrots and normal stuff and Ienjoyed it a lot," Dan said. "I really enjoyed planting stuff. It's almost like you are getting stuff for free, because after just a seed or a seedling you just need sunshine and water to make it grow. It's a little bit of work for a big reward."
