Germany: New Aldi Chief looks to internationalise purchases
Aldi Nord is reorganising its purchasing management, looking to join forces across the border. A Lidl veteran was called in to help with the process. On 1 July, Alexander Lauer will become Aldi Nord's Chief Procurement Officer. Lauer worked for rival Lidl until 2020, but will now take over from Jürgen Schwall, Lebensmittel Zeitung reports.

New Zealand: Rising costs from suppliers to supermarkets
"Having eased from an annual peak of 10.6% in December 2022 to 4.5% in December 2023, the annual rise has slowed only slightly in recent months, from 3.2% pa in March to 2.9% pa in May", said Infometrics Chief Executive and Principal Economist Brad Olsen. UK's Asda says TDR Capital to become majority owner
Britain's Asda said that private equity firm TDR Capital will gain majority ownership of the supermarket group by acquiring Zuber Issa's share in the business, which is still 10% owned by U.S. giant Walmart Inc. Buying Zuber Issa's 22.5% stake will give TDR 67.5%, with 22.5% still owned by his brother Mohsin. Asda said the transaction is set to complete in the third quarter of 2024.
