Belgium gives Jumbo growth despite difficult circumstances
In the first half of this year, Jumbo saw its sales rise 1% to 6bln euros. The Dutch retailer points out that, without "special effects" such as expiring tobacco sales, growth would be higher. Revenue in Belgium grew by more than 20% to over 200mln euro in the first half of the year. This growth was mainly due to a better performance within existing shops, as expansion with new shops is slower than hoped for in Belgium.

Cooler UK weather chills retail sales in June
British retail sales volumes fell by more than expected in June, after unseasonably cooler weather put off shoppers, official figures showed. Sales volumes dropped by 1.2% last month after a 2.9% jump in May, the Office for National Statistics said.

Casino confirms price manipulation probe by French financial prosecutor
French supermarket group Casino confirmed that it is the subject of a preliminary investigation by France's national financial prosecution office over charges of price manipulation and corruption dating back to 2018 and 2019. 70% of Spanish households with children regularly waste food
A new study from ICTA-UAB explains why families with young children waste more food. The research has been published in Frontiers in Nutrition and is based on 800 surveys of Spanish households, which show that the most discarded foods are vegetables (80%) and cereal-based products (63%), followed by dairy products (25%).

Drone delivery company Wing works with DoorDash and Walmart as it makes progress in Australia and USA

US: SpartanNash prepares to close distribution facility in Maryland
SpartanNash will close a distribution facility in Maryland on September 30, reports the Washington Business Journal. The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based grocer inherited the Landover facility when it merged with Nash Finch Co. in 2013. Nash Finch was leasing 368,000 square feet at the time of the merger.
