Collaboration between C-Led and Green Has

Specific lighting for an experimental fruit and vegetable centre

The collaboration between C-LED and the Green Has Group research centre, based in Canale (Cuneo) and specialising in biostimulants and special fertilisers, has resulted in the development of a high-efficiency LED lighting project. After extensive experimentation, the project aims to manage light stress on various crops in experimental greenhouses.

"Green Has Italia was founded in 1985 as a company specialising in the production of complete systems for soilless crops, and then moved on to the research, production, and marketing of fertilisers and biostimulants for the nutrition of agricultural crops. In 2021, the company renewed its image as an international reality and assumed the brand name Green Has Group, consolidating itself as a point of reference for the world of professional agriculture," explain researchers Gianluca Loparco and Alessandro Merlone.

For their part, Raffaello Montanari, sales manager at C-LED, and Cristian D'Elia, technical contact person, explain that: "We were contacted by Green Has researchers with a very specific objective: implementing an LED lighting project with high-efficiency lamps to guarantee light stress on various crops inside our experimental greenhouse. In this way, the researchers can carry out comparative trials in different replicas, testing different prototypes made by the Plant Chemistry research unit at different concentrations (litres/ha dose)."

The objective of this light-induced plant stress is to validate the prototypes and doses that best respond to mitigate this abiotic stress. The in-house validation process will initiate the commercialisation of future biostimulants that will enter the world market under the Green Has brand.

"Working on this project was very stimulating for us at C-LED. Everything started with an inspection where the geometry of the greenhouse was defined. Once the objectives were set, we created a dedicated lighting design for the client, then a test was carried out on a limited area of the greenhouse, after which Green Has was able to test and validate the system. This led to the upgrade and installation of all the other luminaires on both greenhouses in the past few months," continue Montanari and D'Elia.

About Green Has
Through its formulations, Green Has responds to the needs of farmers, offering sustainable solutions that enable crops to produce more with less input. "Our products are designed to be applied by fertigation or foliar application at low doses and in specific phenological phases, to optimise the effect and reduce waste in the environment. Many of these formulations can also be used in organic farming," explain researchers Loparco and Merlone.

"Between 2019 and 2022, the Green Has Research Centre was built in front of the headquarters, i.e., a facility dedicated to the research and development of new formulations and their characterisation. The facility houses the three research units and an experimental station:

a Microbiology Unit for the isolation, selection, and stabilisation of the microorganisms naturally present in the soil, to be used in our Biostimulants to obtain sustainable and quality production.

a Plant Chemistry Unit for the conception, formulation, and characterisation of innovative products.

a Plant Physiology Unit to study the changes that our products induce in agricultural crops at a physiological level, helping them produce more with fewer resources.

An Experimental Station to select the most agronomically effective products through trials conducted in growth chambers, greenhouses, and experimental fields, also with the support of the group's farm.

"The Research Centre plays the role of project promoter and collector of ideas and collaborations with companies, universities, and other research centres. This allows the strengthening of important relationships and the creation of interaction between the various parties involved."
