Guyanese Agriculture Minister lauds efforts of hydroponic growers

Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, yesterday visited the state-of-the-art Agriculture and Innovation Entrepreneurship Programme (AIEP) Hydroponic Farm located at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

The AIEP Hydroponic Project was officially launched during the Agri-Investment Forum and Expo in 2023, with the aim of promoting sustainable, high-tech agriculture.

A release from his ministry said that Mustapha observed ongoing work at the facility, including testing for Dutch buck—a leafy vegetable crop that will form part of the initial cultivation phase. Plant transfer into the hydroponic system is scheduled for tomorrow, when the first round of system testing will also take place.
