Bahamas to construct five new hydroponic facilities

The 27th of May marked a milestone for the future of Bahamian agriculture, as Hon. Jomo Campbell, Minister of Agriculture & Marine Resources, was joined by Prime Minister Hon. Philip Davis for the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sustainable Technology Limited (STL) and UrbanKisaan.

The signing signals the launch of a public-private partnership to construct five modern hydroponic farms across The Bahamas. Specifically in New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco, Andros, and Cat Island. This bold initiative is aimed at reducing the country's food import bill, boosting local food production, and introducing cutting-edge farming technology to empower Bahamian farmers.

Also in attendance were Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Hon. Mario Bowleg, along with key stakeholders and representatives from BAHFSA, BAMSI, ADO, and the Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Resources.

Minister Campbell emphasized that this move will position The Bahamas as a regional leader in agricultural innovation while paving the way for food security and economic growth.
