US: Virginia taking strides to aid indoor growers

Northern Virginia has been making great strides to improve its ability to support local produce growers, and the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation has released a new video detailing how they do it.

The City of Fairfax, Virginia, has taken several steps to help urban agriculture companies such as Area 2 Farms expand into the region. For example, recent zoning amendments have made it easier for urban agriculture companies to launch in Fairfax City, expanding local access to fresh food and supporting more sustainable food systems.

"What the city did was to move pretty quickly to provide zoning text amendments to provide an avenue for businesses like Area 2 to be able to operate within the city without needing any type of special approval", said City of Fairfax Review Ombudsman Tommy Scibilia, AICP.
