Holland: Retail turnover up by over 4% in AprilStatistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that retail turnover was 4.2% higher in April 2025 than in April 2024. Turnover in shops selling food, beverages and tobacco was up by 2.5% in April, year on year. Sales volume was 2.4% lower. Turnover in supermarkets was up by 1.8%, and turnover in specialty shops was up by 7.7%.

The infringement covered the European Economic Area ('EEA') and lasted four years. Mercadona's economic impact in Spain in 2024Mercadona reported: "The IVIE (Valencian Institute for Economic Research) estimates the tax revenue and economic impact of Mercadona in its annual study. In 2024, the activity of Mercadona and its assembly line contributed €33.35bln in revenue and created 743,700 jobs, equivalent to 2.10% of the Spanish GDP and 3.71% of total employment in Spain. Tesco trials shorter opening hours in Express storesTesco is considering closing some of its stores an hour earlier after being hit with a £235mln increase in staff costs following changes to National Insurance contributions. The supermarket chain is thought to be trialling shorter opening hours at its Express convenience stores, closing at 10pm instead of 11pm. The retailer is understood to have fewer employees on shift when the stores are open, The Telegraph reported.
