New microgreens harvester increases efficiency and reduces manual work

ZTI, in collaboration with Van der Plas Sprouts, has specially developed a machine for cutting micro-vegetables. "Previously, this was all done by hand. Not only was it heavy and repetitive work, but the sprouts were never cut to exactly the same length. Moreover, we prefer to handle the delicate micro-vegetables as little as possible," says Eva van der Plas, director of Van der Plas Sprouts.

The new machine not only offers these advantages but also increases productivity. Van der Plas explains: "We now process five racks per hour, compared to four per hour before. But back then, two people were cutting. So the process is now faster and more efficient, with two fewer employees. They can now be assigned to other tasks. In this way, the machine pays for itself."

The development of this machine was made possible thanks to the Just Transition Fund grant received by ZTI. This EU grant programme supports innovations that contribute to the energy transition and a more sustainable working and living environment.
