CEA Advisors, in cooperation with Hydrofarm and Sycamore, Illinois-based CM-Fabrication, have delivered their first state-of-the-art Tissue Culture Micropropagation Growtainer® Lab to Nash Nurseries in Owosso, Michigan. This 160-year-old nursery specializes in chestnuts, paw paws, trees, shrubs, and unusual ornamentals.
Glenn Behrman and his team at CEA Advisors collaborated with leading industry experts to create these state-of-the-art tissue culture labs housed in 40' and 53' insulated shipping containers, referred to as Tissue Culture Growtainers. These labs are designed to optimize plant propagation through controlled environments, allowing for precision cloning, rooting, and accelerating the growth of plants.
Growtainers offer several key features that make them efficient and adaptable solutions for plant cultivation. They are available in 40' and 53' insulated containers, providing flexibility based on budget, space, and production needs. Each Growtainer is equipped with multi-level rack systems, LED lighting, and climate control systems to maintain optimal conditions for plant growth, including temperature, humidity, and light, which creates a controlled environment. These systems allow for precision cloning, enabling the replication of plants with desirable traits to ensure consistency and quality in production. With a high production capacity, Growtainers are capable of producing thousands of plants monthly, making them suitable for various applications, both in food and non-food production. The sterile environment within the Growtainer significantly reduces the risk of disease and pest transmission, facilitating the rapid multiplication of healthy plant stock. Additionally, the customizable design of Growtainers allows them to be tailored to specific crop needs, accommodating different types of plants and production methods.

Growtainers provide several benefits aimed at maximizing efficiency and promoting sustainability in plant production. One of the primary advantages is space efficiency, as the multi-level rack system maximizes the growing area, enabling high-density plant production within a compact space. They are also ideal for seedless propagation, particularly suited for plants that do not produce seeds or require pollination, thereby facilitating easier propagation. Additionally, Growtainers are designed to support sustainable agricultural practices and can be deployed in various locations, including urban settings, to encourage environmentally friendly cultivation methods.
Every Growtainer is custom-made, unique, versatile, and customizable, allowing it to be used for a wide range of crops across various applications. In horticulture, Growtainers can support the cultivation of flowers, ornamental plants, and more. They are also suitable for agricultural products, including vegetables, nuts, and herbs. For pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements, Growtainers facilitate the cultivation of botanicals for various industries. Additionally, in the realm of research, the climate control systems in Growtainers can replicate any temperature or environmental requirement, making them valuable tools for scientific studies and experiments.
