Saudi Arabia: Model hydroponic farm produces over two million kilograms of crops

The model hydroponic farm in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, has produced more than 2,015,000 kilograms of various crops cultivated over an area of 183,000 square meters, supported by 20 air-conditioned agricultural halls that provide an ideal environment to ensure the quality and safety of production.

The farm contributes to the cultivation of more than eight crops without the use of soil, mainly lettuce, celery, rosemary, wild thyme, and basil. It also delivers environmental and economic benefits by reducing fertilizer use by up to 60% compared to traditional agriculture and conserving approximately 90% of water, aligning with the goals of the National Water Strategy 2030 and supporting environmental sustainability.

Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture's branch in Madinah Eng. Ayman Al-Sayed emphasized that modern agricultural technologies contribute to improving production efficiency and quality, while enhancing the achievement of food security strategies and the National Agricultural Strategy. He highlighted the continued support for farmers through agricultural subsidy programs and the implementation of development plans to boost the competitiveness of agricultural products in both local and global markets.
